Agricultural insurance is a mechanism to protect producers against risks, to help them recover more quickly from shocks and to promote better production management. To develop and implement agricultural insurance for crops in general and rice in particular, many countries have developed and enacted various policies. Using review and analysis methodologies of secondary information, data, and reports from academic journals, websites and observation from the fieldtrip in 2024, this article aims: (i) to provide an overview of international experiences of several countries in designing and implementing agricultural insuarance policies for crops; (ii) to identify key lessons learnt and (iii) to propose relevant policy recommendations for the development and implementation of the agricultural insurance policies in Vietnam in the coming time.
