Nannochloropsis oculata grown in modified f/2 medium exhibited a double sigmoid growth curve with four phases: two phases of rapid growth separated by an intermediate slow growth phase, and a saturated phase. In the rapid growth phases, microalgal cells divided rapidly and achieved 2x107 cells per mL on the sixth day. The slow growth phase occurred with the increase of cell diameter and dry weight. The last phase started from the twelfth day, in which there was little or no growth. Effects of sodium chloride on N. oculata cell division depended on concentration and time of treatment. The removal of sodium chloride (NaCl 0M) or the increase of sodium chloride (NaCl 2M) in ten hours from modified f/2 medium yielded in the increase in cell division. Besides, the extension of treatment time from ten to twenty hours resulted in decrease of sodium chloride effects.
