The study was conducted to survey one thousand households(HH)from 5 out of 62 villages in Bac Ninh provinceto estimate people’s willingness to pay(WTP)for water quality improvement, to identify the factors affecting people’s willingness to pay. Respondents are the heads of household. The Turnbull techniquewas usedto estimate expected willingness to payfor water quality improvement. Results of this research show thatthe average WTP is 485.273 VNDper per HHper per year. The potential fundsobtainedwould beapproximately 6 billion VNDper year (268,251USDper year) and the real fundswould havea value of 3.45 billion VNDper year (154,475 USDper year). For Bac Ninh province, the total fundingthat would really be achieved would be 100.2 billion VND per year (4.48 million USD). Potential fundinghas a value of 155.4 billion VND per year (6.9 million USD). Several factors positively impact the WTP of HH with HH type, trade-offbetween economic growth and environmental quality, using tap water, and income of HH beingsignificant statistic variables with positive coefficients. These coefficients indicate that the heads of handicraft households who have high incomes, agree to sacrifice environmental quality to get fast economic growth, andwho use tap water aremore likely to say “yes” to the given bid. The factors of village and bidhadnegative coefficients and high statistical significance.
