    Abstract


    The present study analyzed livelihood assets, livelihood activities and livelihood outcomes of ethnic minority households in Cao Tan commune, Pac Nam district, Bac Kan province, then provided some suggestions to improve their livelihoods and incomes. The study applied structured interviews with 60 households of Tay, H’Mong and Dao ethnic groups and used basic data analysis methods including descriptive and comparative statistics. The results showed that the livelihood assets of ethnic minority households were still poor. Livelihood activities focused mainly on traditional agricultural production with 100% of households participating in crop and livestock production. The average income of a household was VND 60.15 million per year, of which the Tay ethnic group had the highest income of 71.5 million. In order to contribute to raising and stabilizing incomes for ethnic minority households, it is necessary to enhance and rationally use livelihood assets, improve current activities and diversify livelihood activities, combining agricultural production with hired labor, brocade weaving and tourism.
