    Abstract


    In Northeast Vietnam, tea is a key industrial crop and has high potential for development of contract farming. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate probabitity of joining tea contract farming between local farmers and the tea state enterprises in Tuyen Quang province in 2010. The empirical finding showed that 43% of fresh tea leaf volume of farmers marketed through this form. The estimates of Logit model revealed that education level of household head, age of household head, household’s productive tea area and condition of fresh tea leaf transportation to the tea collection point of the state company are positive factors affecting probability of joining contract farming of farmers. While, household’s production capital and average distance from household’s tea plots to the company’s collection point are negative factors impacting the probability. Moreover, the logitic analysis pointed out probabilities of joining contract farming of the sample households at very high, relatively high, neutral, relatively low and very low degrees are 32.6%, 8.7%, 10.9%, 17.4% and 30.43%, respectively.
