    Abstract


    Climate change and sea level rise pose significant challenges to coastal areas, particularly in land use planning and management. This study aimed to calculate the inundated areas of different land use types in coastal communes of Thanh Hoa province under various sea level rise scenarios. The datasets used included the SRTM Digital Elevation Model (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission DEM), ESRI 10m Global Land Cover data, administrative boundaries, and sea level rise scenarios published by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE, 2020), corresponding to the RCP (Representative Concentration Pathways) 4.5, and RCP 8.5 scenarios for the years 2050 and 2080. The analysis was conducted on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. The results show that the total area at risk of inundation was projected to increase from 5.477,04ha (RCP 4.5 - 2050) to 6.875,82ha (RCP 8.5 - 2080). Water surface areas were the most affected land type, while built-up and agricultural lands showed a notable increase in flood risk, particularly in Sam Son, Hoang Thanh, and Hoang Chau communes. The study highlighted the urgent need to integrate climate change scenarios into coastal land use planning, spatial analysis, and decision-making processes.
