Abstract
Holy basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum L.) is a medicinal plant of high economic and pharmacological value, widely used in traditional medicine and the pharmaceutical industry. With the increasing demand for raw materials, research and application of appropriate cultivation techniques to enhance yield and essential oil content are essential. This paper reviewed and analyzed studies on cultivation practices for O. tenuiflorum, including planting season, spacing density, fertilizer application rates, and irrigation management. Based on the assessment of the practical applicability of each technique, suitable cultivation approaches were proposed for the ecological and production conditions in Vietnam, contributing to cost optimization and improved production efficiency. This review provides a scientific basis for further studies to determine the optimal ratio of organic and inorganic fertilizers, as well as to evaluate the effects of fertilizer regimes and planting density on essential oil composition and the environmental sustainability of O. tenuiflorum cultivation.
