    Abstract

In this study, five microsatellite loci in two sets of primers pooled PCR were used to assess the genetic diversity of five populations of white leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) cultured in Vietnam. The number of alleles per locus ranges from 6 to 8 and low alleles frequency is observed at all loci (<0.1). The observed heterozygosity (Ho) ranges from 0.21 to 0.50,  lower than the expected heterozygosity (He, 0.41 - 0.72). The average Fis value varies from 0,18 to 0.40, and high value found at loci TUMXL v6.23 and Lvan 01) for all populations, 0.446 and 0.496, respectively. Fst values were in average (0.054 – 0.185) and no significant genetic differences among five populations. The finding shows the evidence of heterozygote deficiencies all over five populations leading to a question for consideration of a solution. The selective breeding program of white leg shrimp should be done for sustainable development of the species.
