    Abstract

The new rice cultivar BT7KBL was bred by backcross method (Bac thom No7/IRBB21) followed by  pedigree selection. BT7KBL is highly resistant to race 3 and 5 of bacterial leaf blight and moderately resistant to  race 14. It has agronomic characteristics similar to Bac thom No 7 (BT7), short growth duration (130-135 days in spring season, 103 – 105 day in summer season), average yield 5.0 – 5.5 tons per hectare, and good quality. BT7KBL is suitable for  late spring and early summer season in the northern provinces of Vietnam. BT7KBL was accepted by MARD for expansion in Northern provinces.
