Abstract
The present paper reported hypersensitive response (HR) in roots of soybean cultivar “Nam Dan” exposed to Pb2+ ion with concentrations of 0.1, 0.5 and 1.0mM after 6 hours treatment. An increase in content of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS)-products of lipid peroxidation, and the high percentage of membrane injury caused serious cellular damage in root cells. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was strongly induced and soon reached high level, however, the burst of superoxide anion radical (O2.-) was not recorded. The enhancement of HR was not correlated with the treated concentrations of Pb2+ . The activity of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) rapidly increased and maintained high level in 6-48 hours after t Pb2+ treatmen, making contribution to control the burst of H2O2 and O2.- in HR in soybean roots.
