Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the presence of bacteria in Tembusu-infected duck samples collected from different provinces in Northern Vietnam. In this study, we performed PCR reactions with previously published specific primer pairs to diagnose the Tembusu virus along with E. coli, Riemerella anatipestifera, and Salmonella. The PCR diagnostic results showed that 30 out of 73 samples were positive for TMUV (41.1%). The study found that the co-infection rate of Tembusu virus with E.coli was 16.7% (5/30 samples); with Riemerella anatipestifer 20% (6/30 samples); and with Salmonella 6.7% (2/30 samples). It is noteworthy that 2 out of 30 duck samples infected with Tembusu were simultaneously infected with both E.coli and Riemerella anatipestifer, representing 6.7%. This is the first report in Vietnam to investigate the co-infection of the Tembusu virus with some common bacteria in duck flocks.
