Economic Valuation of Thien Cam Beach in Ha Tinh Province

Economic valuation of tourist area is considered as an important instrument for policy making, determining economic mechanisms, as well as identifying tools for effective and sustainable management of tourist resources. Travel cost method (TCM) was applied to estimate demand schedule and economic value of Thien Cam tourist area. Findings show that economic value estimate of Thien Cam tourist area in 2013 was VND7,993.7 billion. This figure is much higher than the total turn-over of tourist service providers at Thien Cam tourist area of VND115.3 billion in 2013, indicating that economic potential of Thien Cam tourist area was underutilized. Based on these findings, the paper has proposed some measures to enhance income for tourist service providers and the economic value of Thien Cam tourist area.

Impacts of Economic Recession on Business Activities of Truong Giang Limited Company

The study was conducted in Truong Giang Co. Ltd, Hai Duong city. The main objectives of the study were i) to analyze impacts of economic recession on business activities of the company; ii) to understand adapting sollutions applied by company to overcome the negative impacts of economic recession, and iii) to propose feasible sollutions to help the company do business more efficiently under economic recession conditions. Systematical and participatory approaches; comparision and consultancy methods are main methods applied in this study. Results of the study show that economic recession has reduced capital sources, especially banking sources; increased input prices and changed payment methods of input suppliers that made business activities of the company more difficult; economic recession had negative impact on 82,6% labor force; and 62,6% of them has income reduced; Business efficiency has reduced in all indicators, especially in 2009 (ROS: -2,36; ROE:-2,80 và ROA:-1,64) and living standard of 82,9% labors has also reduced. To response to economic recession, the company has applied various sollutions. Exploition of government’s stimulus funding package; renegotiation and finding out more input suppliers; appropriately capital borrowing using plan; and better use of labor force are main sollution suggested by the study.

Application of Partial Budget Analysis in Evaluating the Economic Efficiency of Technical Solution Applied in Livestock Production - A Review

Among the various methods used to assess economic viability, partial budget analysis (PBA) is considered a practical and effective tool for evaluating the economic efficiency of technical interventions in livestock production. PBA focuses on changes in four key economic components - increased income, reduced costs, increased costs, and decreased income - resulting from the implementation of a specific technical solution. By concentrating only on the elements affected by the intervention, PBA enables the estimation of net income change without requiring comprehensive data from the entire production system. This paper presents an overview of PBA, covering its concept, guiding principles, scope of application, and practical use in livestock research and production. Case study analyses illustrate PBA’s capacity to quantify the economic benefits of various technical improvements, including enhanced nutrition, genetic upgrades, housing system improvements, and veterinary interventions. The paper concludes that PBA is a straightforward yet powerful tool for evaluating the economic impact of technical advancements, thereby supporting more informed and efficient investment decisions in livestock production

The study aimed to determine the impacts of construction and development of economic zone on a number of land use management factors in Southeastern Economic Zone, Nghe An province. The study used method of surveying, comparing and analyzing secondary data, method of interviewing 148 officials and 480 households in 3 survey areas. The study uses Likert's 5-level scale to evaluate the process of building and developing economic zone, managing land use, using T-Test to check the differences in some indicators between objects and among 3 groups of households, use the correlation coefficient r (Spearman Ranking) to determine the impact level. The process of building and developing the economic zone with five selected criteria has been assessed at a high level by the people and management officials, there has been a difference between the two groups. The planning for construction of economic zones and development of functional zones has a major impact on land use management elements in region 1. Economic zone construction planning; functional area development; infrastructure development; attracting investment project capital and labor force that has a great impact on the land use rights transfer market, agricultural land prices and agricultural land use in region 2. Planning for construction of economic zones, development of functional areas and development of facilities. The infrastructure has a great impact on the transfer market of residential land use rights and the rights of land users in area 3.
Evaluation on Economic Losses of Arising Wastes from Food Processing Handicraft Villages in the Red River Delta Region, Vietnam

Despite thesocio-economic benefit, productionactivities in food processing handicraft villages have causedpressing problems on environmentand economic losses for farmers. The study results indicatedthat economic losses due to wastes from food processing operationsin handicraft villages varied from VND 2.9to 5.6 billion per annum;, whereineconomic losses from cassava starch and cana vermicilli processing villages were higher than other food processing handicraft villages. Health cost and change in agricultural productivity accounted for 57.53% and 24.58%, respectively,of the total economic losses. To reduce economic losses due to wastes arising from food processing in handicraft villagesand to ensure sustainable development, the study suggestedthat government should support to replan waste water collection system, solid waste tratementtechnology; issue and enforcecraft village-specificenvironmentalstandards; increase awareness and promote benefit and responsibility sharing among households and community, and strengthen environmental management activities and sanctionmeasures..
Hiệu quả kinh tế mô hình trồng xen hồ tiêu và cà phê tại xã Quảng Hiệp, CưMgar, Đăk Lăk

Cà phê và hồ tiêu là hai loại cây trồng chủ lực, tạo thu nhập và việc làm cho nông dân vùng Tây Nguyên. Xen canh cà phê với hồ tiêu là phương pháp đã được áp dụng gần đây và cũng đã chứng tỏ một mô hình sản xuất tốt. Nghiên cứu này nhằm đánh giá hiệu quả kinh tế của mô hình trồng xen canh cây cà phê và hồ tiêu tại xã Quảng Hiệp, huyện CuMgar, tỉnh Đắc Lắk và đề xuất một số giải pháp nhằm nâng cao hiệu quả kinh tế của mô hình này trong thời gian tới. Nghiên cứu này được thực hiện qua điều tra 50 hộ nông dân và phỏng vấn sâu với một số tác nhân. Các phương pháp chủ yếu sử dụng là thống kê mô tả, thống kê so sánh. Kết quả cho thấy quy mô sản xuất trung bình mỗi hộ khoảng 1,5 ha. Mỗi hec-ta trồng xen canh cho sản lượng 2,76 tấn cà phê và 1,51 tấn hồ tiêu, mang lại thu nhập khoảng 203 triệu đồng/ha cho hộ nông dân trong niên vụ 2014 - 2015. Mô hình trồng xen cà phê và hô tiêu cũng chứng tỏ là có hiệu quả kinh tế hơn là các mô hình trồng độc canh. Hiệu quả kinh tế của mô hình trồng xen canh cà phê và hồ tiêu khác nhau giữa các loại hộ và phụ thuộc vào quy mô sản xuất, điều kiện nước tưới, chất lượng hạt giống, giới và dân tộc của chủ hộ, cũng như hiểu biết kỹ thuật của nông dân. Mô hình trồng xen canh cũng chịu ảnh hưởng của các yếu tố bên ngoài khác như dịch bệnh cây trồng, thay đổi thời tiết, biến động thị trường đầu vào, đầu ra, thông tin thị trường. Trên cơ sở đó, các giải pháp đã được đề xuất nhằm nâng cao hiệu quả kinh tế của mô hình xen canh cà phê và hồ tiêu.

Relationship between Economic Growth and Environmental Quality: Overview of Theory and Empirical Evidence of Environmental Kuznets Curve

The article used secondary information and data to summarize theory and empirical evidence about the Environmental Kuznets Curve. Some limitations of the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis include the assumption of a one-way relationship between economic growth and environmental quality while considering economic growth as a solution to environmental problems; increased environmental quality of developed countries may be traded off for increased pollution and environmental degradation of developing countries, focusing on economic growth while ignoring several other important factors affecting environmental quality. Empirical research showed that the Environmental Kuznets Curve is correct for only some types of pollution and environmental degradation; suitable for some countries or regions; can be observed for a certain period but do not persist into the future; Environmental Kuznets Curve test results were sensitive to the input data, to the choice of variables, and to the model used in the study. In the case of Vietnam, there was no consensus on affirming the existence of the Environmental Kuznets Curve about the relationship between economic growth and environmental quality.

Land Use Planning (LUP) is a potential solution for sustainable use of land in the long term by optimizing the effective use land resources. In addition, the vital role of Land Use Planning in socio-economic development needs to be analysed in a specific area. This is an important background task: In a transition country and emerging economy, such as Vietnam, it is a priori not clear, which force LUP actually exerts on actual development. Because of the high priority that the Vietnamese government places upon economic development, for example, it is conceivable that economic forces exert a much stronger influence that a plan. If there is strong indication that actual development is not correlated to plans, LUP was a lost cause from an economic point of view: More complex LUP would only generate more costs without possibly resulting in any positive change. If, in contrast, a strong influence can be documented, confidence in the entire LUP process would be strengthened.

Evaluating the Current Status of Land Use and TheBorder Gate Economic Zone Dong Dang -Lang Son Development Plan

The study evaluated the current status of land use and the development plan implementation of the Border Gate Economic Zone Dong Dang - Lang Son with the purpose of finding out the disadvantages in land use and in the implementation of planning types that affect the development of the Border Gate Economic Zone. The research methods involvedcollecting secondary data and primary data, processing data by Excel and SPSS, and evaluating the development plan implementation of the Border Gate Economic Zone Dong Dang - Lang Son. Results showed that the current status of non-agricultural land use was extremely low, especially the land use for infrastructural facilities, production - business establishments and industrial zones. By 2017, several land use indicators of functional areas were delayed, so the plan goals were not achieved as initially set. The factors that influenced the plan goal implementation included: policy of attracting investors has been limited and difficulty in fund mobilization and change in land use purpose. According to the evaluation from land users, the plan was not well implemented due to slow process of planning and implementation, and there was no close linkage between the Border Gate Economic Zone development plan and the New Rural Construction plan.
Technical Efficiencyf of Farm Household Tea Production: A Case Study in Yen Son District, Tuyen Quang Province

This study was conducted to analyze the current economic efficiency and evaluate technical efficiency in tea production through a survey of 293 farming households in Yen Son district, Tuyen Quang province. The research focused on economic efficiency analysis and applied the stochastic Translog frontier function to estimate the level of technical efficiency in tea production. The results revealed an economic efficiency of VND 97.3 million /ha/crop, while the average technical efficiency level reached approximately 31.84%, indicating significant potential for improving tea productivity in the region. The study also identified that factors influencing economic and technical efficiency included household production characteristics, tea varieties, and organic farming methods, all of which contribute to enhancing tea productivity and quality while improving technical efficiency in production. Therefore, agricultural extension policies, training, and capacity-building programs are expected to continue playing a crucial role in promoting the sustainable development of the tea industry in Vietnam.

Some Issues on Theories of Agricultural Economic Development in Coastal Region - A review

The article focuses on discussing several theoretical issues related to coastal agricultural development - a key area contributing to livelihood improvement, ecosystem protection, and the mitigation of negative impacts from climate change. The study employs a systematic literature review method combined with content and thematic analysis of scientific documents to clarify the concepts, roles, characteristics, key components, and factors influencing coastal agricultural economic development. The review of existing studies reveals that agricultural economic development in coastal areas should take advantage of regional ecosystem strengths to form an appropriate economic structure; select optimal production organization models; exploit natural resources sustainably with community participation; and enhance risk management capacity. Promoting agricultural economic development in coastal regions requires innovations in public investment and service provision, prioritization of infrastructure development, expansion of marine aquaculture, diversification of local livelihoods, integration of production with processing and market access, poverty reduction, as well as the effective application of climate-smart agriculture.

Economic Efficiency of Rice and Sesame in the Rice-sesame Rotation Model in the Mekong River Delta

This study aimed to estimate the economic efficiency of rice and sesame in the crop rotation model of 2 rice crops and 1 sesame crop adopted by farmers in the Mekong River Delta. Cobb - Douglas random marginal profit function analysis of primary data collected from 191 farming households practising this crop rotation model in 2022 showed that the average economic efficiency of farming households estimated in this study was 73.28% in the sesame crop, 66.06% in the winter-spring rice crop, and 60.69% in the fall-winter rice crop. The level of economic efficiency of farming households was also likely to increase if the technical efficiency and allocation efficiency of farming households were optimally improved.

Economic Efficiency of High-Tech Application in Production and Business at Fruit Growing Cooperatives in Mai Son District, Son La Province

This study focused on assessing the current situation and economic efficiency of high technology application of fruit-growing cooperatives in Mai Son district, Son La province. The level of high technology application of 50 cooperatives was determined based on the actual situation of high technology adoption in five main stages of production. Research results showed that the level of high technology application at the cooperatives was low, focusing mainly on input and production stages. The study also showed that the economic efficiency of cooperatives applying high technology at different levels wasignificantly different in total revenue and cost of profit. The cooperatives applying high technology at levels 3 and 4 obtained higher economical efficiencies than those applying at levels 1 and 2. Based on the results from the research, a number of solutions in terms of capital, market, infrastructure, land, and capacity were proposed in order to improve the economic efficiency inhigh technology adoption at fruit growing cooperatives in Mai Son district, Son La province.
Economic Linkage between Households and Enterprises in Production and Marketing of Medical Herbs in Hai Hau District, Nam Dinh Province

Economic linkages between farmers and enterprises can bring benefits to both sides: farmers can avoid the situation of “good harvest and falling price”, while enterprises are able to stabilize raw materials for processing. The article aimed to point out the benefits and shortcomings in economic linkages between enterprises and farmers in the production and marketing medicinal herbs, thereby proposing solutions to improve the efficiency in the linkage between enterprises and farmers. In addition to secondary information, primary data were collected from two enterprises, one cooperative and100 farmers involved in linkage and 30 farmerss not involved in linkage with enterpirse. The results showed that economic linkage brought benefits to both businesses and farmers. However, the linkage between farmers and enterprises in Hai Hau district revealed many shortcomings such as low level of household awareness, small production scale and fragmentation and lack of infrastructure … In order to further promote linkage, the solutions proposed are following: i) Improving farmers' awareness of the role of linkages in the supply of raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry; ii) Strengthening support from enterprises for farmers in production techniques and production inputs; iii) Implementing mechanisms and policies by local authorities in order to attract more enterprises to invest in production, purchasing and processing of medicinal herbs in the district.

Role of the Women Union in Households’ Economic Developmentin Yen Phong District, Bac Ninh Province

This study aimed to assess the role of the women union in economic development of its member households in Yen Phong district, Bac Ninh province. In addition to the secondary data, 90 members of the women union in three representative communes of the district were selected for direct interviews to collect their assessment on women union’s supportive activities for the household economic development. The study results showed that the women union was very active in dissemination of useful information, transfer of the advanced production techniques to its members, support for the households’ access to loans, and coordination with various agencies in providing vocational trainings and job opportunities for the members, thus significantly contributing to the households’ income improvements. However, results and efficiency of some supporting activities still had some limitations. The enhancement of professional training for the local staff of the women union, more dissemination for raising the members’ awareness, better coodinations with professional agencies, reinforcement of advanced production technique transfers as well as vocational trainings and providing more job opportunities for women, especially the women in poor and vulnarable households should be done for improving the role of the district women union in economic development of its member households in the coming time.
Effect of N, P, K Levels and Timing of Topdressing on Growth, Yield and Economic Efficiency of Mungbean Grown in Thanh Hoa Coastal Sandy Soils

Identifying optimal fertilizer rate and frequency and timing of nitrogen and potassium split application presents one of the nutrient management measures for improvement of mungbean yield on sandy soil in general and on coastal sandy soil in Thanh Hoa province in particular. In the present study, the effect of three NPK rates (LL1, LL2, and LL3) and frequency and timing of NK split applications (TD1, TD2, and TD3) on plant growth, grain yield and economic efficiency of two mungbean varieties were studied. Mungbean cultivars ĐX208 and ĐX16 were grown on coastal sandy soils in the districts of Nga Son and Hoang Hoa and Tinh Gia, respectively, in 2012 and 2013 summer cropping seasons. Plant growth and yield were influenced by the level of fertilizer, timing and frequency of nitrogen and potassium top dress application. For cv. ĐX208, highest fertilizer rate (LL3) resulted in high yield although not significant compared with the control. Fertilizer rate LL3 with TD3 split application resulted in better growth and significantly higher yield as compared with the control (TD1). However, LL2 with TD2 split application brought about highest yield and economic return for ĐX 2008, while for shorter growth duration cv. ĐX16, LL2 with TD2 split applcation resulted in highest yield and economic return.
The Indispensability on Restructuring of Agricultural Economic in Direction of Commodity Production in Bokeo Province, Lao People’s Democratic Republic

Bokeo province depends on the country of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), is located in the north of the country, it is a mountainous province which has many people of ethnic groups. In addition Bokeo has a lot of potential to develop agricultural commodity in terms of high production in a specialized one. However, in the past few years the production of agriculture in the province still has a condition of self-sufficient, lack of concentration, low labour capacity, there has not cultivated an advantage of the nature yet including socio-economic of the province to develop a base of agricultural commodity with high yielding, quality and high ability for competition. Therefore, it is needfully studying on basis theory and pratice deeply to be a scientific foundation in socio-economic development, especially on agriculture sector of the province. This paper emphasises on systematic basis of theory as same as to conduct a scientific foundation on practice for restructuring of agricultural economic in direction of commodity production in Bokeo province.
Current Status of Coffee Cultivation and Production Efficiency on Basaltic Soils in Krong Nang District, Dak Lak Province

Coffee production plays an important role in the economic structure of Krong Nang district. Total area of coffee production in Krong Nang district amounts to 26,013 ha, of which 25,662 ha are in the harvesting period, accounting for 13.45% of total area under coffee in Dak Lak province. More than 80% coffee acreage in the district is cultivated on basaltic soils and coffee is considered as the highest economic crop in Krong Nang district. Survey results showed that the coffee farming households could be divided into three groups: the high economic efficiency group occupied around 20% total surveyed households with average coffee yield of 4.3 tons per ha and net profit of VND 99.91 million per ha; the medium and low economic efficiency groups ocupied 44% and 36% of total surveyed households, with yield of 3.05 tons and 1.85 tons per ha, and profit of 69.8 million VND and 37.34 million VND per ha per year, respectively.
The Current Situation and Economic Efficiency for Using Cultivative Land in Tu KyDistrict, Hai Duong Province

The study evaluated the curent status of agricultural land use models as well as economic effectiveness of land use types TheGAMS multipurpose mathematic model was used to determine land use typeswith high economic efficiency to serve as basis for developing land use guidelines until 2020 in Tu Ky district. In 2010, there were 29 land use formswithin three main land use types in the district. The economic efficiency of land use for rice cultivation was shown to be lower that land use for non-rice crops. Based on GAMS model with varying food production and investemnt as variables, potential land use types were proposed.
ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE OF CLAM AQUACULTURE IN NAM THINH COMMUNE, TIEN HAI DISTRICT, THAI BINH PROVINCE

Clam aquaculture has been practiced in Nam Thinh commune, Tien Hai district since 1989, but exhibited instabilllity recently, especially in terms of economic aspect. The study aimed to analyze the economic performance of clam aquaculture and propose recommendations to develop clam aquaculture in a more sustainable manner. A household survey of 48 clam farmers and key informant interviews were conducted in 2012. Gross margin analysis and comparative statistics with t-test and F - test were employed to analyze data. Results show that given the existing resources, technical level, and farmers’ expertise, farms specializing in meat clam aquaculture, and/or operating at medium size, have highest economic performance. A number of problems relating to resources, seed, techniques, knowledge, water conditions, and social conflicts were addressed and recommendations to develop clam aquaculture were proposed accordingly.

Restructuring the Agricultural Economy in Dong Anh District, Hanoi City

This study focused on analyzing the current status of agricultural economic restructuring in Dong Anh District through crop and livestock structure transformation, the development of specialized farming areas, investment in infrastructure, and reforms in production organization. The district has achieved significant progress thanks to synchronized policies and the consensus of local people. However, it also faces challenges from rapid urbanization, shrinking agricultural land, and labor shifts away from the agricultural sector.The study surveyed 145 respondents, including 20 officials from functional units and 125 representatives from economic organizations, comprising 25 farm owners and 100 farming households. The research assesses the current situation of agricultural restructuring based on several aspects: restructuring by ecological zones and localities; restructuring by commodity chains and local products; the application of science and technology; restructuring of agricultural production and trade organizations. It also identifies the factors influencing this process: (1) factors related to infrastructure development; (2) factors related to industrial and commercial development; and (3) other factors such as human resources, supportive policies, climate change, and socio-cultural aspects.These findings serve as a foundation for orienting sustainable development solutions for the agricultural economy in Dong Anh District in the future.

Role of the Farmers' Union in Household Economic Development in Son Tay Town, Hanoi City

This study aimed to analyze the role of the Farmers’ Union in promoting household economic development in Son Tay town. The research employed descriptive statistical and statistical analysis of the variability in socio-economic phenomena using both primary and secondary data. Secondary data were collected from the Union’s activity reports and relevant published documents. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with Union officials at the district and commune levels, as well as survey of 96 union members. The findings indicate that the Farmers’ Union played an active role through the following activities: technical vocational training, support for applying scientific and technological advancements, establishment of cooperatives and cooperative groups, facilitating access to loans from the Farmers' Support Fund and other credit institutions, thereby creating several sustainable economic models. However, the role of the Farmers' Union in Son Tay Town remained limited due to insufficient professional capacity of some staff members, constrained financial resources, and inadequacies in the policies related to staff placement and allowances. The study proposed several solutions to enhance the Union’s role in the coming period.

Shifting Agricultural Structure in 2008-2013 Period and Land Use Efficiency in 2013 in Tien Lang District, Hai Phong City

Tien Lang is located in the south Hai Phong city and situated in the southern coastal area It is a purely agricultural district with 68.92% of land grown with rice. During the last years the rice growing area decreased significantly. The government authority and communities gave priority to shifting agricultural structure to adapt to climate change. An interview was carried out on 300 representative households in the district representing different types of land use. The study revealed that crops and livestock of higher economic efficiency (pipe tobacco, potato, onion, tomato, melon, pepper and aquaculture) are well adapted to climatic change. Although the area under these crops is of low proportion (23.31%) in the cropping structure but it has become concentrated. These plants and aquaculture have high potential and prospects for high added value and production value could reach from VND 150 to 1,296 million/ha. In future, the district needs tight control of rice land changes, giving priority to expanding the area of economic crops such as rice cv. M6, potato, pipe tobacco and aquaculture to enhance the economic efficiency in response to climate changes.
