A field experiment was conducted from June to December in 2013 at Viet NamNational University of Agriculture to evaluate effect of four levels of nitrogen application (0 kgN, 120 kgN, 180 kgN, and 240 kgN per ha at a constant basal fertilizer of 120 kgP2O5and 120 kgK2O per ha) on growth, green fodder yield, and nutritive value of two sorghum cultivars, OPV21 and OPV88. Green yield and its related to parameters as well as nutritive value were determined at three cuttings: first cutting (90 days after sowing), second cutting (45 days after first cutting), and third cutting (45 days after second cutting). The obtained results showed that increase ofnitrogen level from 120 kgN to 180 kgN per ha did not lead to increased green yield. However, nutritive parameters,such as dry matter, total minerals, crude protein, and lipidsincreased while concentration of HCN decreased. At the second and third cutting, both of green yield and crop growth rate of OPV21 cultivar increased significantly with increasednitrogen applicationand concurrent rise inHCN concentration.The experiment suggested that the nitrogen level of 120 kg per ha should be applied for first cutting, whereas 180 kgN to 240 kgN per ha canbe appliedfor later cuttingsof OPV cultivars.

The three line hybrid rice combinations introducedfrom China which were evaluated in 2012 springand summerseason. Thehybrids hadgood plantype, high tillers, acceptable yieldand goodquality. The selection ofpromissing combination(s)was based on agronomical traits and morphological traits, such as growth period, yieldattributingcharactersand actual yield. As a result,Vinh uu 366(33F1)was selected for itsshort growth duration (115 days in the season), high yield (6,8tons/ha), and good quality. Thispromissing hybridshould be further tested for the ecological adaptation in other areas in order to release as new variety.

Nghiên cứu này nhằm đánh giá ảnh hưởng của trồng xen ngô-đậu tương và biện pháp làm cỏ thủ công đến sinh trưởng của cỏ dại. Thí nghiệm đồng ruộng được bố trí theo kiểu Split-plot với ba lần nhắc lại. Ô lớn được bố trí tương ứng với số lần làm cỏ thủ công: Không làm cỏ (NW), làm cỏ một lần ở giai đoạn ngô 3-4 lá (HW1), làm cỏ hai lần ở giai đoạn ngô 3-4 lá và 8-9 lá (HW2). Ô nhỏ được bố trí tương ứng với kỹ thuật trồng xen: M0 (ngô trồng thuần), M1 (trồng xen 1 hàng đậu giữa hai hàng ngô), M2 (trồng đậu trên cùng hàng với ngô) ở vụ xuânhè, hoặc M3 (trồng hai hàng đậu giữa hai hàng ngô) ở vụ đông. Mật độ và chất khô của cỏ dại cũng như cây mọc lẫn được đo đếm trong ba khung điều tra ngẫu nhiên (0,25 m2) cho mỗi ô thí nghiệm ở ba thời kỳ: ngô 3-4 lá (S1), 8-9 lá (S2) và 13-14 lá (S3).Kết quả chỉ ra rằng trồng xen và làm cỏ thủ công đều làm giảm đáng kể sinh trưởng của cỏ dại. Trong các thí nghiệm này, cỏ mần trầu (Eleusine indica) là loài cỏ chiếm ưu thế nhất trên ruộng ngô với mật độ và khối lượng chất khô cao, tuy nhiên sinh trưởng của loài cỏ này bị giảm đáng kể bởi trồng xen và làm cỏ thủ công. Làm cỏ hai lần làm giảm mật độ và sinh khối cỏ nhiều hơn so với làm cỏ một lần. Nghiên cứu này một lần nữa xác nhận tầm quan trọng của biện pháp cỏ thủ công trong việc kiểm soát cỏ dại hiệu quả. Ngô-đậu tương trồng xen nên được kết hợp với hai lần làm cỏ thủ công khi không sử dụng thuốc trừ cỏ.

An experiment was carried out to compare two-line hybrid rice combinations in 2014 Spring and Summerseason in Viet NamNational University of Agriculture, GiaLam district, Ha Noi. The results showed that the hybrids were early maturing, ranging from 123-132 days in Spring season and 98-105 days in Summer season. Theirplant height rangedfrom 108.6 to 122.2cm and the hybrids were resistantto diseases and insects, such baterial leaf blight andbrown plant hopper. They hadyield ranging from 5.9-7.7 tons/hectare in Spring season and 5.4-6.7 tons/hectare in Summer seasonwithgood grain quality and slender grain. Based on yield and quality two hybrid combinations, viz. E15S/R29 và E13S/R2 were selected for recommendation as potentialtwo-line hybrid rice in Viet Nam.

Theeffects of plant growth regulatorson in vitroshoot formation and shoot growth of Anoectochilus setaceusBlume were investigated. After 2 months of culture,shoots cultured on SH media containing 1.0 mg/l BA gave the highest shoot height, fresh and dry weightandnumber of stem nodes. SH media supplemeted with1.0 mg/l BA and and 1.0 mg/l αNAA appeared to be the best medium forstem-node culturein terms of shoot and root growth. However, the shoots turnedbrowndue tosecretion of phenolic compounds. Liquidculture medium combined withandcotton wool plug were able to reduce the harmful effect of phenolic compound during shoot culture.

Dòng mẹ bất dục đực TGMS 103S sinh trưởng phát triển tốt trong điều kiện sản xuất hạt lai ở miền Bắc Việt Nam. Đây là dòng mẹ của một số giống lúa lai của Việt Nam như Việt Lai 20, Việt Lai 24. Gen điều khiển tính trạng bất dục đực của dòng TGMS 103S chưa được xác định. Do đó, nghiên cứu này sử dụng chỉ thị phân tử để xác định gen điều khiển tính trạng bất dục đực của dòng TGMS 103S. Thí nghiệm sử dụng phân tích kiểu hình và kiểu gen ở thế hệ F1và F2 của cặp lai TGMS 103S với R20. Sử dụng phân tích liên kết bằng phần mềm MAPMARKER. Kết quả đã xác định gen tms-103Snằm trên nhiễm sắc thể số 2 và liên kết với các chỉ thị SSR RM3294, RM6378, RM7575và RM71. Những chỉ thị này có thể sử dụng trong chọn giống lúa lai cho chọn lọc MAS tính trạng bất dục đực.

Afeeding trial was carried out to evaluate feed intake, digestibility and feed utilisation of some protein-rich forages by New Zealand White growing rabbits. A total of 24 growingmale rabbits at 8 weeks of age (1.53± 0,13 kg) wereused for a 4x4 latin square experiment repeated twice, using 4 feeds (Trichanthera gigantea, Ipomoea aquatica, Ipomoea batatas and concentrate pellet) in 4 experimental periods (each period lasted 14 days with 7 first days for adaptation and 7 last days for data collection). Results show that the protein-rich forages were ingested in equal amount(5.66-5.87%BW), buthigher than that of the concentrate pellet (5.27%BW). The highest intakes of ME and CPwere the concentrate pellet and Ipomoea aquatica, respectively. Digestibility was also highest for concentrate pellet, followed by Ipomoea aquatica, Trichanthera gigantea and Ipomoea batatas. Among the protein-rich forages, Trichanthera gigantea gave the highest ADG (23.5g) and and best FCR (4.6 kg DM/kg weight gain), Ipomoea aquatic andIpomoea batatasgave similar ADGs (20g) and FCRs (5.1-5.2 kg DM/kg weight gain).

This study aimed to build up a collection of field isolates ofPorcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) circulating in pigs of Viet Nam.This is the first study for development of vaccine against post-weaning multi-systemic wasting syndrome, one of the most important Porcine circovirus type 2-associated diseases. Seven isolates of PCV2 were selected as candidates for subsequent evaluations. The purity test showed that 100% of PCV2 isolates were free of CSFV, PRRSV, PPV, PEDV, TGEV, PRV, PAdV and Mycoplasma. However, there were two out of sevenisolates were contaminated with PCV1, and thus were not eligible for the production of master seed. The titers of fivepurePCV2 isolates were in the rangefrom 102.00TCID50/ 0.1 ml to 105.75TCID50/ 0.1 ml, of which the titers of threeisolates werehigher than 105.00TCID50/ 0.1 ml.

This study was conducted from January to August 2014 to evaluate the accumulation of heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd) in the carp cultured at the aquaculture experimental farm -Viet NamNational University of Agriculture. The accumulation of heavy metal in sediments, feed, water and in carp (muscle, liver, bowel, bearing) was determined by using atom absorption spectrometry (AAS) method. The results showed that in all samples, the highest concentration wasZn and the lowest concentration wass Cd.The average concentration of Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd in sediments, in water as lowerthan the limit specified by NTR 43: 2012/BTNMT, Standard PEL (1999) and by NTR 38: 2011/ BTNMT. For carp, metals concentrated in the liver, intestine, and gills but leastin muscle tissue. In the all of three samplings, the metal concentration in muscle, gill, intestine, liver, respectively was in the following order:Zn> Cu> Pb> Cd. In the organs of carp, the concentrationsof Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd,respectively,were in muscle (1.32 mg/kg; 30.96 mg/kg; 0.9 mg/kg; 0,01mg/kg); liver (2.36 mg/kg; 75.43 mg/kg; 0.08 mg/kg; 0.08 mg/kg); intestine(12.18 mg/kg; 137.33 mg/kg; 0.36 mg/kg; 0.03 mg/kg and in the gills (2.23 mg/kg; 140.92 mg/kg; 1.78 mg/kg; 0.09 mg/kg). Bioaccumulation factor (BSAF) of 4 metals in sediment and (BCF) in water for each the organs in the order Zn> Cu> Pb> Cd.Bioaccumulation factor (BCF) between metals in feed with the organs of carp was low (BCF <250).

Một thí nghiệm nuôi dưỡng được tiến hành nhằm đánh giá ảnh hưởng của tỷ lệ xơ và protein trong thức ăn thu nhận đến khả năng sử dụng thức ăn và sinh trưởng của thỏ nhậpnội. Tổng số 30 thỏ đực New Zealand 1,5 tháng tuổi được phân ngẫu nhiên đều vào 5 lô. Khẩu phần ăn gồm có thóc tẻ (2% khối lượng cơ thể) và thức ăn xanh cho ăn tự do, trong đó cỏ setaria (Setaria sphacelata)lần lượt được thay thế ở mức 0, 25, 50, 75 và 100% bằng rau lang (Ipomoea batatas)để tạo ra các tỷ lệ xơ và protein khác nhau trong khẩu phần. Kết quả cho thấy rằng thay thế đến 75% cỏ setaria giàu xơ trong khẩu phần bằng rau lang giàu protein đã làm tăng hàm lượng protein, giảm hàm lượng xơ, tăng lượng thu nhận vật chất khô (VCK) và protein, tăng tỷ lệ tiêu hoá của khẩu phần và do đó thỏ có tăng khối lượng cao hơn, đồng nghĩagiảm tiêu tốn VCK của thức ăn cho mỗi đơn vị tăng khối lượng (FCR). Tuy nhiên, khi mức rau lang quá cao (100%) thì tăng khối lượng của thỏ cũng không tăng tiếp. Việcthay đổitỷ lệ cỏ setaria và rau lang không có ảnh hưởng đáng kể đến đến tỷ lệ các phần trong cơ thể và thân thịt của thỏ. Điều đó chứng tỏ khẩu phần cho thỏ New Zealand cần đảm bảo được có tối thiểu khoảng 16% CP và 40% NDF trong tổng VCK thu nhận.

A study on pig production at 22 pig farms in Gia Lam district was conductedto assess overall environmentalquality of pig-farming,to identify maincharacteristics and pollution sources of pigproduction process and to proposealternative solutions for environmentalprotection. The results showed that pig-farms are taking some measuresfor waste treatment. However, waste from pig-farming was treatedincompletely and discharged directly to environment. Surface-water around pig-farmswas polluted by TSS, COD, NH4+and PO43, whilegroundwater was contaminated by NH4+. The study has identifiedpollution sources, causes of pollution and proposedsome solutions to protect the environment forpig-farming in Gia Lam district.

Trong những thảm hoạ tự nhiên, lở đất xảy ra thường xuyên và ảnh hưởng rất lớn đến người dân và môi trường tại các vùng đất dốc. Mục tiêu nghiên cứu là xác định nguy cơ lở đất gây ra bởi các yếu tố khác nhau tại vùng có độ dốc cao. Phương pháp phân tích đa mục tiêu (AHP) và hệ thống thông tin địa lý (GIS) được áp dụng để xác định nguy cơ lở đất trên địa bàn huyện Mai Châu. Ba mức đánh giá nguy cơ lở đất được xác định là nguy cơ thấp, nguy cơ trung bình và nguy cơ cao. Trong đó, nguy cơ cao được đánh giá là rất quan trọng giúp người sử dụng đất và các nhà hoạch định chính sách trong vùng điều chỉnh các loại hình sử dụng đất không thích hợp. Kết quả cũng sẽ được kiểm định bởi điều tra thực tế lở đất đã xảy ra tại địa phương để từ đó đánh giá được độ chính xác của dự báo về nguy cơ lở đất.

Four fruiting media(MT-1, MT-2, MT-3 and MT4) were used to cultivate Cordycepsmilitaris(orange caterpillar fungus). Results showed that MT-4 had highest biological productivity(11.63± 1.34%).Among four basal substrates including three brown rice typesA, B, C and paddy riceD were assessed. With biological productivity of 10.92± 1.96%, type B brown rice considered asthe most suitable substrateto cultivate orange caterpillar fungus. However, fifth subculturestarted to showy degenerationof fungal stock as evidenced by the change offruting-body colour, the mycelial density,the number of fruiting-body primordia andbiological productivity.

Red multiflorous knotweed is a valuable herb used in traditional medicine. This study was conducted to develop a technologial protocol for production of Cao BangRed multiflorous knotweed derived wine. The roots were soakedin Na2CO30.4% solution for24 hours, cleanedand sliced. The slices werethen boiled inblack bean extract added with red multiflorous knotweed and arrowroot at5:1ratio for2 hours. Boiled red multiflorous knotweed wasdried at 800C for5 hours. Dried materials were groundto powder of approximately 1-2 mmin size, then extracted twice using 70% ethanol at 600Cwith total solvent volume of Red multiflorous knotweed to ethanol at 1:12 ratio forapproximately 6 hours. Ethanol was evaporated to yieldred multiflorous knotweed inspissation. Finally, red multiflorous knotweed liquor was madewith5% red multiflorous knotweed inspissationin Ha NoiVodka(29%)added with 0.3% Angelica polymorphainspissation.

Service trade liberalization is among crucial measures in ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) roadmap towards a common market and production base by 2015. Therefore, in recent years, the ASEANmembers haveput great effort to liberalize the service sector within the region. This paper analyzes Viet Nam's service commitments in ASEAN, clarifies its implementaion of these services commitmentsuntil now and draws outsome implications to promote participation of Viet Namin service trade towards AEC 2015.

Using gender analysis approach and participatory methodologies, thestudy aims to find out impacts of climate changeon gender rolesin agricultural production to propose appropriate solutions for gender equity in climate change (CC) adaptation and disaster mitigation policy at local level. The study found, CC and disasters produced high pressure for Giao Lac commune. Due to gender role, the impacts of CC on men and women were different. Study results pointed out the positive change of society perception in the role of women. They participatedin decision making of nearly 70% solutions for CC adaption in horticulture and livestock, and100%in financial solutions. However, improving the role of women in production and CC adaptation activities, accompanying with burden of housework and other gender gap might increase gender inequality in Giao Lac Commune. Thus, this study proposed thatlocal government and other stakeholdersshould take gender equality into account for any CC adaption or mitigation policy or plan which is being or will be implemented in this commune.

The value chain of Dong Du guava speciality bearsthe characteristics of agricultural product with four major agents involved,i.e., farmers, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers. The study on Dong Du guava value chain revealedthe limitationsin market channels including low value added and poor diversity of theagents involved in the value chain. Soil characteristics, input supply, market and seasonalityhave significant effects on the value chain through the consumer prices. By contrast, brand promotion, distribution, packaging and storage have little impact on the consumer price. This reveals that the value chain of Dong Du guavaspecialityisincompleteandneeds to be developed. The paper has also pointed out thekey solutions to increase the product value chain.
